Itinerary:

Join me for 1 time up and down Stone Mountain (distance about 2 miles) then 1 time around on the Cherokee trail (distance about 5 miles) for a total distance of about 7 miles.

We'll follow the power lines part of the way SO BE READY FOR STEEP ASCENTS/DESCENTS (TREKKING POLES ADVISED). As we come down the mountain, we'll turn onto the Cherokee trail and go clockwise around the mountain. Towards the end of the trail instead of going back up onto the mountain we'll go thru the Nature Garden and finish the last couple 100 yds on the sidewalk.

We'll be moving most of the time with brief water (bring at least 1 quart) / fruit / snack breaks. Be sure to bring both.

The goal of this hike is to enjoy a good workout. No time leisurely picture taking or sight seeing. So, this is not a beginners hike! You must have some experience hiking at a steady pace and be ready for a workout.

Watch the weather! This event will be cancelled due to rain.  Likewise, a "cancelled" notice for the event will appear on the AOC calendar.

Meet at 9:00 AM - the hike starts at 9:10 sharp.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village about 7 minute walk from meeting place, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so, past a gas station and a funeral parlor (both on your right). When you see City Hall turn left. There is a Marta park and ride on fourth street. From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll be at the parking lot where we'll be meeting.
