Itinerary:
Due the weather forecast this trip is now going to take place in Georgia at lower elevation and lattitude.

Description: An in-and-out hike of about 10 miles or more, if we wish. From Andrew’s Cove campground, we hike uphill along a stream for 1 hour to Indian Grave Gap and from there continue uphill on the AT for another 1.5 hours to the overlook beyond the summit of Tray Mountain. At that point we will have hiked 4.8 miles and gained 2400 ft of elevation. If we wish, we can hike for another hour descending the north side of Tray until we have to turn around, or we can simply turn around there. Much of the hike is under an admittedly leafless canopy of trees, excluding rhododendrons, but relatively protected. Parking is outside the campground, which is closed for the season, on the left-hand side of the road, if you’re coming from Helen, just before the hairpin turn.

Required Items to Bring:
The usual snacks, lunch, rain gear.
Hat, gloves.
2-3 liters of water; maybe hike with 1.5 -2 liters, leave extra in the car.
Change of shoes for the car.

The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
