Strenuous 12 miles

Join me for the first in a series of events for the true outdoor enthusiast. For the first event, we are off to hike Mt Mitchell, the highest peak in North Carolina AND East of the Mississippi River at 6,684 feet.

We will depart Friday evening on the 4 hour drive to Black Mountain, NC (my favorite town in NC). We will check into our hotel and pack for the mornings adventure. We will rise early and drive the 30 miles to Mount Mitchell State Park, where the trailhead is at 3200 feet.

The hike to the summit of Mt Mitchell is 5.6 strenuous miles with an elevation gain of 3500 feet. From the stone observation tower at the summit, on a clear day, one can see 85 miles in all directions. After a short rest, we will return down the mountain to the trailhead and back to Black Mountain. We will enjoy a celebration dinner at the Red Rocker Restaurant and some evening entertainment (drinks and live music). Sunday morning, we will head home.

Trekking poles
Camelback with lots of water or Gatorade
Trail snacks and Saturday lunch
Rain gear or light jacket

Non-Member Cost:$75.00/Person
Cost Includes:$75 includes fees and hotel for two nights. Extra money for dinner Friday night, Saturday breakfast, Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast. Please share gas expenses with your carpool drivers.
