Itinerary:
This is part of the  Sunrise Series  , a series of hikes meant to get people out of their beds and into the woods for the other golden hour. These will generally be short, local hikes starting just before sunrise. Some starting as easy strolls along rivers while the sun brings the woods to life, some starting with a climb in the gathering dawn to get to a summit or other viewpoint to watch the sun break the horizon.

With Daylight Savings time starting, what better way to kickstart your internal clock to the earlier time than a sunrise hike?

We will meet in front of the Visitor Center and leave sharply at 7:35. Any stragglers will have to catch up. A fast-paced climb up the trail will take us to the summit. Sunrise is at 7:53 in the new time, so the quicker you reach the summit, the more you'll see!  We will regroup and spend a short while at the summit, hopefully watching a gorgeous day starting. Following the sunrise (perhaps 15 minutes later depending on the weather) we will continue the usual Kennesaw route over Little Kennesaw to Burnt Hickory Rd. After a quick regroup at Burnt Hickory Rd, we'll return the way we came -- no time for an extension this weekend.

Hikers should be able to at least keep up at a moderate 2-2.5 mph pace.

Required Items to Bring:
  • Plenty of Water
  • Good hiking shoes
  • Light snack/breakfast for the summit
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:1) I-75 North to exit 267B Hwy 5 Canton Road Connector

2) If you are not heading west after getting off of the Interstate you are going the wrong way. You should be heading towards US 41 and downtown Marietta after getting off of I-75 onto the Canton Road Connector.

3) You will be tempted to take the first exit off of the Canton Road Connector which is US 41, but do not take it. Proceed over US 41 on a bridge staying on the Canton Road Connector.

4) After crossing US 41 take the next right at a redlight onto Church Street Extenson.

5) You should cross railroad tracks soon.

6) Take a left onto Old US 41 at a redlight. If you get to US 41 again, you have missed the turn onto Old US 41 so turn around.

7) Stay on Old US 41 until you pass in front of the mountain turn left onto Stilesboro Road and an immediate left into the visitor's center parking lot if there are spaces available.

Meet at 7:30 AM at the cannon outside the main entrance of the visitors center. We will leave *sharply* at 7:35. Call the trip leader if you are running late, but please note that we won't wait on you. You will have to try and catch up with the group if you arrive late.
