Itinerary:
Let's enjoy another near perfect spring day in Atlanta with a leisurely 3 mile sunset hike at Stone Mountain.

We will start with an easy stroll along the RR tracks and through the .75  mile Nature Garden Trail. This fairly level loop winds through a mature oak and hickory grove.  The native azaleas are in bloom this week and the understory is just starting to leaf out.

Next, we will head back to the walk up trail in time to catch the sunset at 7:53 p.m. We will hike at a moderate pace. You are welcome to hike this portion at your own pace or stick with the group. The walk up trail gains about 650 feet of elevation in one mile.

At the top of the mountain, we will hang out for awhile, take pictures, and enjoy the scenic view of the Atlanta skyline. If conditions are not too hazy, there is a potential for a nice sunset.

The weather forecast for Monday is sunny with a high of 79 degrees, but it can be cool at the top of SM at sunset.  You may want to
bring a hat or light windbreaker. We will be walking down after sunset, so please bring a small LED flashlight or headlamp.

HIKE WILL START FROM CONFEDERATE HALL PARKING LOT AT 6:25PM. PLEASE BE THERE 5 MINUTES EARLY FOR SIGN UP AND INTRODUCTION.

Free parking is available at MARTA PARK n RIDE parking lot. From there, it is less than a half mile walk to the west gate park entrance near our meeting spot.

Please take the time to look at the park map and your parking options in order to be on time.
