Itinerary:
This is a hike for intermediate to advanced hikers, and a great event for those who want to get back to Atlanta earlier than on most out of town hikes.  We will skip the steps and begin at the trailhead above the falls.  We will hike the AT Approach trail for 4 miles and then turn onto the Len Foote Trail.  We will stop for a short break and to eat a snack/lunch at the Len Foote Hike Inn. We will return by completing the loop via the Len Foote trail. We should be back in Atlanta by mid to late afternoon.

We will maintain a steady pace with very limited rest breaks, except to enjoy our lunch and a beverage at the Len Foote Inn.  The hike will exceed 10 miles with above-average elevation gains.  While the pace will be steady, it will not be a race, and we expect anyone who wants to hike ahead of the group to stop at all intersections.  Therefore, this hike may not appeal to those seeking to hike at very fast speeds.  By the same token, you should be able to hike 10 miles comfortably at an average speed with only a few breaks.

Afterward, for those interested, we will optionally view the falls from the top and then drive down to the bottom and view the falls and/or take pictures there before we leave the park.

Although there is no current plans to eat after the hike, the trip leader can be easily "arm-twisted" to eat -- maybe when we get back to the carpool location. :)

Thanks to Clay White for letting us use many parts of this writeup. :)

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $41.60 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
The Len Foote Inn often graciously provides coffee, tea, fruit and leftovers as snacks for day hikers.  Please remember to bring enough money to tip appropriately if you choose to take advantage of this courtesy.

However, you can not count on there be any food there when we arrive so your trip leaders highly recommend you bring a lunch also. :)
