Itinerary:
Easy

Red Top Mountain State Park is located on a peninsula on Lake Allatoona. It offers many recreational opportunities including boating and camping. There is an abundance of wildlife (arrive early to read the information at the visitors center).

The Homestead trail is a very nice day hike for you and your dog. It is about five and a half miles and relatively flat. Well walk through the forest, along a creek, and beside the lake. There is a beach where we will stop for lunch and to let the dogs swim.

Of course a dog is not required - feel free to join us if you do not have a dog. Cats, on the other hand, will be eaten.

Required Items to Bring:
A 6-foot non-extendable leash

Water for you and your dog
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Towel to clean your dog

Lunch

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Cartersville, GA Meet us at the visitor center at 11:00 a.m. From Atlanta, take I-75 north to exit #285, Red Top Mountain Road. Turn right off the exit ramp. The visitor center is approximately 1.8 miles on the left.

Notes:

Obviously dogs are allowed on this hike. Here are a couple rules: Your dog must be well behaved and reasonably friendly toward people and other dogs. The trip leaders reserve the right to disallow any dog from participation. According to park rules dogs must be on a 6-foot leash at all times. Please do not use a telescoping leash because they tangle with other hikers. In case of rain, this event will be canceled. Please contact the trip leaders for weather info.
* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cost Includes:Georgia state parks require a parking fee.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:   Please review the AOC cancellation policy.
