How about a nice Stone Mountain sunset hike to stretch the legs, get some exercise, and then relax and watch the sun go down behind the buildings in Buckhead.

We will be beginning the hike at the Confederate Center (near the restrooms).  We will hike about half of the nature trail, hop on the Cherokee Trail, and then take a little detour which should keep us off the walk-up trail a good portion of the route.  At the top of the mountain, we will hang out for awhile, take pics, and enjoy the scenic view of the sunset from the top.  The sun will be setting over the buildings in Buckhead, so we should get a nice view of the city.  What a great way to spend the evening! We will be walking down a trail through the woods, so please bring a small LED flashlight or headlamp to avoid tripping.

This hike will be about 3.5 miles (about 1.5 miles longer than the walkup trail) and may involve a few additional steep portions, which is why it is rated a D3.  Because we will not be on the walk-up trail for a good portion of the hike, please plan to maintain pace with the trip leader.

The current forecast for the time of the hike is for a temperature in the upper 70's and I expect it to be in the low 70's when we get to the top.  It can be a bit breezy on top, so it may be a good idea to bring a light jacket or an extra layer to maintain your comfort level.

Free parking is avaialable at MARTA PARK n RIDE parking lot. It is less than a half mile walk to the park and the entrance is near our meeting area.

Please take the time to look at the park map and parking options in order to be on time!
