Itinerary:

Enjoy urban bike rides and beautiful scenery?  Like to sit and relax to evening outdoor music with friends? Then join us for an Urban Bike Adventure taking you through some of the scenic and historic portions of East Lake, Oakhurst and Kirkwood, followed by a short 3/4 mile walk to Oakhurst to enjoy Jazzfest and more!

We'll be biking a pleasant 8.5 mile ride with several photo op locations along the way.  This route has been scouted several times and will keep us off the busy roads throughout our journey.   HOWEVER, there are a few steep hills so previous biking experience is necessary.   We'll be biking at a moderate pace, with several scheduled stops to allow the group to stay together.  Our starting and stopping point will be John's house in East Lake for the staging area.  This house has a large driveway and ample, safe parking and is less than a mile from the popular downtown Oakhurst district.

Along the bike path, we'll be visiting a few surprise locations near Agnes Scott College and downtown Kirkwood.  Afterwards, we reconvene at John's house for a quick change of clothes / cooldown then proceed to Oakhurst (this part is OPTIONAL) to enjoy Jazzfest on the Scottish Rite lawn in Oakhurst.

Our pace will be determined by the group and our stops in between, but count on an easy pace of 10 MPH.

This bike ride has been rated a D3 as there are several steep hills, so it requires some intermediate levels of riding ability. All types of bikes are welcome.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

YOU are responsible for your bike maintenance or repairs on this ride (although we won't ever be too far from home base).

A lock for your bike is not necessary, but if you decide you'd like to bike to the Jazzfest instead of walking, you will need to ensure you have a lock and proper lighting / safety gear for riding at night, as it will be nightfall by the time our evening has concluded.
This event is very popular and can get crowded quickly, so we need to get going by 6:00 pm if we hope to find a spot to sit and enjoy the music.
