We will walk about 6 miles on a trail system that crisscrosses Bowman Island and offers some nice views of the river. In some places the forest gives you the illusion of being very far from civilization. With luck, we will see a family of deer that live in the area. Optional: After the hike we will have a picnic lunch.

Required Items to Bring:

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Buford Dam 9:00 a.m. at the Lower Pool Park From the Park and Ride go north on I 85, and take the I 985 exit. Continue a little under 4 miles on I 985 until Exit 4. At the top of the ramp take a left onto SR 20. Proceed about 5.5 miles on SR 20 and take a right onto Suwanee Dam Road, which dead ends after 2.2 miles when it reaches Buford Dam Road. Take a left onto Buford Dam Road, after a little over a mile you will reach Buford Dam. After crossing over the dam the road makes a sharp turn to the right. (The spot is marked by an arrow pointing to the right). At that point make a sharp left onto a well maintained dirt road that leads to the Lower Pool Park, which is at the bottom of the dam. We will meet in the parking area that is closest to the dam.
