We will leave the park and ride and drive to the parking area at Russell Bridge Trailhead on Hwy 28. We will move everyone and their gear to half of the vehicles leaving the other half at the parking area. Drive to Burrells Ford parking area to begin the hike. At the beginning of the hike there are 2 waterfalls close to the parking area that can be hiked to if anyone wishes. One is .25 miles each way and the other is .5 miles each way. From the parking area we will hike along the river passing Big Bend Falls on the way to our campsite. The hike to the campsite is 7 miles. We will be camping near where the Lick Log Creek Tributary meets the Chattooga River. We will be camping between Lick Log Falls, which has a clear, deep water, swimming hole with sandy bottom and Lower Cascade which hurtles 25 feet over a granite outcropping into the Chattooga River. The next day is only a 3.7 mile hike to where we left the first set of cars. Once at the cars we will go pick up the set we dropped off at the beginning of the hike. The driving distance between both parking areas is only 12 miles so our travel times packed into half the cars wont be that long at all. After picking up the other cars we will drive to a parking area along Section IV of the Chattooga River. Then a small hike in to see the Five Falls Area. The river drops through a chasm here and consists of a Class IV rapid called Entrance followed by 4 Class V rapids; Corkscrew, Crack-in-the-Rock, Jaw Bone and Sockem Dog. After hanging out here for a bit, possibly watching rafters or kayakers go through the chasm, we will hike back to the cars and head for home.

NOTES: Multiple vehicles are needed since this is NOT a loop trail.

We will also drive to the Five Falls Area to see the rapids.

This hike takes place along the upper Chattooga River where boating is not allowed.

Fires are allowed on this trip.
