Itinerary:

Blanket’s Creek is mostly a single track trail system located in Woodstock just off of sixes road built and maintained by SOBRA.  It is a system of five trails; Mosquito Flats (Beginner), Mosquito Bite (Beginner plus), Dwelling Loop (intermediate), South Loop (Advanced) and Van Michael Loop (Advanced).  This encompasses about 15 miles of total trails.   See trail map below.  The trails alternate depending on the day of the week in order to minimize our impact on the trail and to allow all mountain bikers to maintain the same directions (except on the green trails- easy).  However, please be aware that Mountain bikers’ bike one direction and all other traffic, such as runners, hikers and dog walkers will go the other direction.

This ride is designed to whip us back into mountain biking shape and allow for more saddle time while enjoying the company of others.  This is why I am keeping this ride at 5 miles and a slow to moderate pace.  We will start out on Mosquito Flats as a quick warm up.  We will continue along the path until we reach Dwelling Loop – which is about 4.2 miles, and considered an intermediate level ride.  This trail will include riding through a narrow single track system over tree roots, with some moderate hills.    Because we are riding on Friday, the trail system will go in a clockwise direction.  That means we will have a steady climb to start the ride, followed by a nice downhill section.  This section has a short advance downhill part if you so choose- this is optional.  I will continue along the intermediate part only. After our downhill stint we will continue to do several climbs and some steady riding.  Along this path we will have some views of Lake Allatoona as well as two benches to stop and catch our breath.

Note that it is not the Trip Leader’s responsibility to teach you how to mountain bike or maintain your bike.  However, the Trip Leader and other experienced AOC riders are most likely going to be there and willing to give advice.

In summary we will ride a total of 5 miles +/-.  Some minimal mountain biking experience is recommended.  If you are unsure of your abilities please contact me with any questions.  This ride is recommended for anyone who is comfortable riding on a narrow trail and over several tree roots.

In case of cancellation or postponement due to rain (or trail closure due to recent rain), I’ll send an e-mail by 10:00pm the evening prior.
