Itinerary:

Why "twice a year?"... because the sun will be setting exactly over the top of KM, which occurs twice each year.

We will start with an easy stroll along the RR tracks and through the .75  mile Nature Garden Trail. This fairly level loop winds through a wooded area with a small stream and makes a great warm up before we head up the mountain to catch the sunset.

Next, we will head back to the base of the walk up trail for a brief water break before we climb to the top to watch the sunset at 8:34 p.m. We will hike at a moderate pace on a side trail, rather than on the heavily traveled walk-up trail.  We will gain about 650 feet of elevation in just over one mile. At the top of the mountain, we will hang out for awhile, take pictures, and enjoy watching the sun set over Kennesaw Mountain.

The weather forecast for today, Sunday May 20, is sunny with a high of 84 degrees. It can be breezy at the top of SM at sunset, so you may want to bring a light jacket. We will be walking down after sunset, so please bring a small LED flashlight or headlamp.

HIKE WILL START FROM CONFEDERATE HALL PARKING LOT AT 7:00 PM. PLEASE BE THERE 5 MINUTES EARLY FOR SIGN UP AND INTRODUCTION.

Free parking is available at MARTA PARK n RIDE parking lot. From there, it is less than a half mile walk to the west gate park entrance near our meeting spot.

Please take the time to look at the park map and your parking options in order to be on time.
