Itinerary:

With so much interest, it’s been decided that we’ll do the exact same trip on Sunday also. This will give a lot more people a chance to try caving. Please just sign up for either Sat or Sun.

The first AOC wild caving trip filled up in less than a day, so we are leading another two. Our goal on this trip will be two caves located west of Chattanooga, Tennessee, about a 2 hour drive from Atlanta. The first cave is profusely decorated and has a gate that allows entry. You will want your camera for this one. The second cave is just the opposite, it is a long stream cave with just a few formations, but the size of the stream passage makes it worth the visit. The deepest part of the water is about knee deep, but some places has mud mixed in for fun. These caves can be done if you are a first time caver.

We will sit out on the grass to eat a small lunch (bring your own) in-between the 2 caves. If it’s raining, we’ll stop at a fast food restaurant instead.

After visiting the caves, we will clean up and go out to dinner in Chattanooga. You will get home about 8 or 9, still time to go to a party if you have any energy left.

Provided Items:
Hard hat with mounted light.
• Bottles of water.

NOTE: You will want to eat a hearty breakfast before you leave (think carbs). And for those with long hair, be reminded that you will be wearing a helmet and that you may want something to tie your hair back.

Required Items to Bring:
• 9 AA-size alkaline batteries (do not get the cheaper “Heavy Duty” ones)
• A small flashlight to be used as a backup light.
Old clothes that can get wet, dirty and scuffed. (The temperature inside the cave will be 58 degrees, so no jackets needed inside)
Hiking boots (no smooth soles).
Knee pads (soft only, no hard plastic). These can be bought at Wal-Mart or Home Depot for about $3-4.
Clean clothes to change into after the cave.
• A large plastic garbage bag to put your dirty/wet clothes into.
Gloves. Wear what you like. The cheap gardening gloves with the little rubber beads are popular to use. Very tight gloves can be difficult to take off when they get wet and muddy (not good if you’re trying to take pictures).
• A day pack or fanny pack to hold water, snacks, flashlight, and anything else you want to bring in the cave with you.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Wool or synthetic socks will help your feet stay warm when they get wet.
• A camera with a flash. I suggest you keep it in a tough Ziploc bag along with a paper towel or small wash cloth to absorb any moisture. A small hand towel will also be handy to wipe your hands before handling the camera.
• A large towel to wrap around you for modesty while you’re changing clothes.
Snacks to be eaten inside the cave. Granola or power bars work well.
• A small lunch to be eaten in between the two caves.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Chattanooga, TN Carpool Only Please Take I-75 North to the Windy Hill exit (#260). Turn right on Windy Hill, just before you get to Powers Ferry Road turn left into hotel parking lot. (please meet us at the first level parking lot)

Notes:

Are Dogs Permitted? No, they look silly with caving helmets.

Will this event occur rain or shine? Yes (it doesn’t rain in the cave).
