Itinerary:

We'll take a moderate pace around Stone Mountain for this hike. It will be a good workout, but not a killer.  We'll follow the Cherokee Trail, also known as the Stone Mountain Loop, as it circles the mountain for a hike of about 5 miles. We'll meet at the bathrooms near Confederate Hall and hike clockwise around the mountain, starting with a walk past the stone carving and the laser show meadow.  We'll continue past the Grist Mill and the lakes, ending our hike through the Nature Center.  This hike will not be going up the mountain. However, those of you signed up for the 5 PM sunset hike can do this event and follow it with the next one.  There is also a 6:15 PM hike up the mountain if you'd like a break before heading to the top.

We will meet at the bathrooms near the Confederate Hall. We'll gather at 2:45 pm and be finished by 5 pm.  There will be a laser show starting at 9:30 PM for folks who plan to hike to the top of the mountain and hang out to enjoy the sunset.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive about a mile past a gas station and a funeral parlor on your right. When you get to East Mountain Street, turn left. There is a Marta Park & Ride on Fourth Street. Turn right onto Fourth Street and soon thereafter make a left into the parking area.  From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll be at the parking lot where we'll be meeting. The Marta parking lot is a 1/4 mile walk from the bath house.
