Itinerary:
Moderate – Strenuous 7.0 Mile Hike

Dont let the cold weather keep you inside. Hiking in the winter can be a great experience with views that not available most of the year and no worries about mosquitoes and other insects. Blood Mountain is very popular hiking destination and for good reason: The highest point on the Appalachian Trial in Georgia, well maintained trials, a 360 degree view from the summit and an hour and half from Atlanta. Thus it is often crowded during popular hiking seasons. However unless we have another exceptionally warm weekend, I expect few other visitors while we are there.

About half of our hike will be on the Appalachian Trial and the other half will be on connecting trials. While all of the trails are in great condition, most of the trail is rocky and depending on weather many sections could be muddy, slippery or icy. Weather conditions will be colder and windier in the mountains so bring the appropriate layers. Gloves, something to cover your head and a windbreaker should be included in your gear.

The total elevation gain will be over 1000 feet. You should be in pretty good shape for this hike as most of your fellow hikers will likely not want to take long breaks standing in the cold. That being said it will not be a seven mile sprint. E-mail the trip leader if you are unsure this is the hike for you.
