Itinerary:

There are lots of fast paced hikes this weekend, so let's  take it easy on this one and just enjoy talking with friends, meeting new friends,  and walking at a very moderate pace.  Nothing strenuous!  It is a great hike for beginners who at least have the ability to walk three miles.  Of course, more experienced hikers are welcome to come along and even walk ahead at a faster pace, if you like.  The trail is one big loop, so you can't get lost!  - - At least, not for long!

The Leita Thompson Memorial is a very pretty trail located in Roswell, GA. It's made of soft, small gravel and plenty wide to walk side by side. It's very wooded and clean and has a few nice little hills. I call it the perfect D2. We'll do about 3 or 3.5 miles on the trails including a walk around a small lake we pass on the trail.

A little more information on the park:

There are no bathrooms, but there are three sets of porta potties throughout the park. And - - of course - - there are plenty of trees.

Please call or text me if you are running late.  I plan to start on time, so please arrive a few minutes early, in case you have to park your car in the overflow lot about 1/8 mile from the pavilion lot.  My number is 404-788-4089.  Be sure to identify yourself by name if you leave me a message.

This is a dog-friendly park, with many dogs on the trail.  You are welcome to bring your dog as long as you keep it on leash and clean up any messes that it makes.  There is a fenced in "off leash" area if you'd like for your dog to be able to run free and play with other dogs.

Required Items to Bring:

water, gatorade or whatever you like to keep hydrated (important)
close toed shoes

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Insect spray is helpful.

The trails are shaded, but there is a large meadow we cross that offers full sun.  Sunscreen is adviseable if you are concerned about getting full sun without protection for 10-15 minutes.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

1200 Woodstock Rd

Roswell, GA 30075

It's best to use maps.google.com and map directions from your destination. You can go to maps.google.com and enter the bold text below in to the search bar. If you chose Satelite View, you can see a birdseye view of the parking lot.

34.06315, -84.40678

There is a green roofed pavillion very close to Woodstock Rd. You can see it easily from the road and it says "Leita Thompson Pavillion." There is a road on the East side of that and it leads directly to the parking lot.

You may want to (or need to) park in the overflow parking lot that can be accessed from the main lot if the main lot is full.  It's only 1/8 of a mile down a shaded road.
