Itinerary:

We will meet near the restrooms by Confederate Hall in Stone Mountain Park at about 7:20 and start walking up the mountain at 7:30 PM. We will take an alternate trail up the mountain, circle around the top of the mountain, and relax waiting for the sunset at about 8:53 PM. Then we will head down the mountain.

We will not walk very fast, and we will stay together since the trail can be easy to 'lose' on the way up. We can relax on top, walk around and explore or head back down at your leisure. We do not need to stay together going down since we will follow the hike up trail going down. A headlamp may be a good thing to bring. It will be warm so bring water. There is a water fountain and restroom at the starting point and we will end where we started. Snacks may be nice and a camera would be good.

How to Get There:

Event Directions:

To the main entrance: From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile - stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left, shortly after passing the West gait park entrance. (Careful - there's a stop sign in front of Confederate Hall for those entering the West Gate.) The parking lot will be immediately after. Wait for the group near the walk up trail.

There is a $10 daily parking fee when you enter the park. You can buy an annual pass for $35.

To the Free Park and Ride lot:

The free parking directions: From Hwy 78 take exit 5 - stay right for a half mile - then a quick exit to E. Ponce/Stone Mtn. Village. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so into town. Turn left on East Mountain. Turn right on Fourth Street. There you will find the MARTA park and ride.

Notes:

Free parking is available at MARTA PARK n RIDE parking lot in Stone Mountain Village. It is less than a half mile walk to the park, and you turn left once on the main road in the park. This park entrance is near our meeting area by Confederate Hall. We will be near the restrooms. Please take the time to look at the park map and parking options in order to be on time!
