Itinerary:

Join us for another wet, butt-sliding adventure in awesome Tallulah Gorge, just a little over an hour from Atlanta.

One of the most spectacular canyons in the eastern U.S., Tallulah Gorge is two miles long and nearly 1,000 feet deep. We will hike rim trails to several overlooks and swim at a natural pool in the gorge floor.

A suspension bridge sways 80 feet above the rocky bottom, providing spectacular views of the river and waterfalls.

In about 3-4 total miles, we'll stop at a handful of overlooks, descend 600+ stairs crossing a suspension bridge over the gorge, and then pick our way downstream about a mile to Bridal Veil Falls, or as it's more appropriately known, Sliding Rock where we'll spend about 2 hours swimming, sliding, and sunning. This is a really fun afternoon for those who are comfortable scrambling through boulders and swimming.

CAUTION: Footing is slippery in some places of the river.  Shoes with good traction may be a better choice than hiking boots. River shoes for crossings and play at sliding rock are recommended.

Gorge access is limited to the first 100 people per day, so we need to get there early to make sure we get passes.  We plan to leave the Park & Ride at 7:30 AM and return by mid-afternoon.

Exhibits in the park’s Jane Hurt Yarn Interpretive Center highlight the rich history of this Victorian resort town, as well as the rugged terrain and fragile ecosystem of the area. The persistent trillium, monkey-face orchid and green salamander are protected species found within the gorge. An award-winning film takes viewers on a dramatic journey through the gorge, including footage of rock climbers and kayakers.  A gift shop offers snacks, jewelry, toys, books, walking sticks, clothing and more.
