This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

This is a strenuous 20+ mile exploratory hike for advanced hikers only. Please do not sign up unless you have done a D5 before.

The best way to escape the ATL summer heat is to go up into the mountains. Trying a slightly different and longer route to the summit of Standing Indian, we will starts at the Tallulah River Campground near River Mtn (~2286 ft). Following Flat Branch Creek, we will climb to Blue Ridge Gap (~3050 ft) where the AT intersects. Following the AT northwards, we will pass Wheeler, Rocky and Rich Knob, then Courthouse Bald and Kitchens Knob to Deep Gap from where we ascent Standing Indian (5499 ft). The trail now turns south to Beech Gap from where we descent to Tate City and follow the access road back to the trailhead.

After the hike, we will stop for dinner in Clayton.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $96.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile.
