Itinerary:

nantahala_falls_approach

The Nantahala is the PERFECT river for these inflatible kayaks, aka funyaks, rubber duckies.  These sturdy little boats are self-bailing and quite stable, more so than a sit-on-top and many kayaks.

This is a Class II-III rated river.  Actually it's all class II until the Class III Nantahala Falls at the end of the trip.  It's a pretty safe falls to run with plenty of help at the bottom if you fall out.  Since it's right at the end you can decide to end your trip right before the falls instead, but we WILL talk about you.

Skill level: I suggest that you should be able to answer yes to one or more of these qualifiers:

 * I have some experience in a kayak or canoe and am usually able to stay in the boat.

 * I've swam whitewater before (e.g. gotten thrown from a raft, etc.) and I'm not afraid of doing it again.

 * I'm new at this but I love the water and am anxious to try something new!

Next item ... it's a long drive.  Google says it's 2:45 from the Park & Ride.  To assure that we have adequate resources for the carpool, I am insisting that you sign up only if you intend to carpool from Indian Trail P&R.  We will plan a dinner stop in Clayton, GA on the way back at Mama G's, our favorite pizza restaurant in Georgia. Anyone from the club that wants to meet us at the outfitter and join us for the float/dinner is welcome, but do not sign up now.  Send me an email instead to make those arrangements.  I'll add you as participants after registration closes.

Outfitter: We'll be using Endless River Adventures (yeah, I know how foreboding that sounds :)  See http://www.endlessriveradventures.com/nantahala-river/nantahala-rafting-options,  DUCKY/INFLATABLE KAYAK TRIPS, for more information.  If we're 15+ the price is $25 pp.  Price includes all gear incl. wetsuit and splash jacket.

*** YOU MUST PAY IN ORDER TO BE OFFICIALLY REGISTERED ***

YOU MUST call the outfitter and pay for your boat in order to be 'officially' (that's whatever we say it is) registered for this event.  Within 1 business day of signup you must call Endless River Adventures 828/488-6199 or 800/224-7238 to pay for your boat.  Single duckies are $25 per boat and doubles are $22.50 per person.  Double-duckers (aka wusses) will miss some of the thrill I think.

If the trip develops a waiting list, Lynn says signups who have not paid as required will be dropped from the event without notice.

Required Items to Bring:

Pack your lunch for the river (we'll stop for lunch - and bathrooms - around 1:30 or 2:00)

Plenty of drinking water for the river - you will NOT be able to bring a hard cooler.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Suggest you use the outfitter's website for tips like what to wear, etc.

Waterproof camera

Something to tie your 'stuff' to the boat
