Itinerary: | |||||||
Atlanta Rocks is a smaller gym compared to Stone Summit, but it doesn’t usually get as crowded. It has 50 top-rope stations. The climbs there are shorter but arguably more technical than the ones in Stone Summit. It is a great place to build your climbing skills. When you get to the gym pay at the front desk first and check your name on the sign-in sheet. Don’t forget to mention that you are with our group. Get the equipment if you don't have it. The gear is not included in the price. If you don't have any gear, you may end up paying up to $24.00. Detailed price information can be found below. I can help you get acquainted with regular AOC climbers, but will send you a description on how to find us (or you can ask at the front desk). I'll probably be climbing or belaying someone. Since it is a small gym, you shouldn't have any problems finding us. The routes you choose can be as easy or as hard as you want. They range from 5.5 (Beginner) to 5.13 (Advanced.) You don't need to feel intimidated. Every advanced climber was a beginner at some point in their lives. If you get tired, you can stop to rest, sit around, watch other climbers, or just socialize. The most important thing in rock climbing is not to conquer every route in the gym, but to have fun while you are climbing. Note that it is not our responsibility to teach you how to climb. However, the Trip Leader and other experienced AOC climbers are most likely going to be there and willing to give advice and get you started on the right path. If you are a regular, we may ask you to accept one of the beginners in your group. You don't have to do it, but this helps us a lot especially when there are a lot of new climbers. If you are not belay certified at Atlanta Rocks, you can ask a staff member to test you. The test doesn't take long. They will test you if you know how to tie and check a figure-8 knot, the belay commands, the proper use of a harness, if you belay and lower without letting go of the break hand, and so on. If you belay at the other climbing events, you shouldn't have any problems. Their test is done in two separate days. The next time you come to Atlanta Rocks after you pass the test, they will check you again, just to make sure you still remember everything. After you pass the first test, you can belay for the rest of the session. I'll be there at least until 9:00 PM. The gym closes at 10:00 PM. You can arrive any time between 6:30 and 9:00 and stay as long as you want or until the gym closes. | |||||||
