Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:
The best way to beat the heat is to get on the water, so who wants to Shoot the Hooch? We are leading a kayak trip on Section 4 of the Chattahoochee, which starts at the Duncan Bridge Outpost. It is 5 miles long and is the most remote section of the river, so it should be very pretty.  The take-out is the new Mossy Creek state park and we will be shuttled back to the Duncan Bridge Outpost when we are done, at no extra charge.

This is a wide section of the river, which usually has more water. That allows us to paddle it even when other rivers might be too low.  Section Four has several class 1 rapids and should be both scenic and fun, but not too challenging.

We will be renting sit-on-top kayaks, which are comfortable and easy to maneuver. We will stop and take a break about halfway down to relax and maybe do a little swimming, so it is a good idea to pack a snack or light lunch.  After our trip we can all go get a real meal (maybe in Helen) for those who’d like to join us. We will provide more details closer to the trip.

Bring your own kayak: we will allow up to three personal kayaks for a fee of $14.00.  If you plan to bring your own kayak, the first three people who send an email to Allston indicating they will BYOK will be allowed to do so.  If you do bring your own kayak, and plan to carpool, I would plan on being one of the drivers. Do not pay via PayPal until you get a confirmation from the Trip Leaders saying you can BYOK.

As noted above, beginners are welcome - we can teach you the basics and this is an easy stretch of river to learn on.  Please do be comfortable enough around moving/swift water to take care of yourself and possibly swim.  If you fall out of your boat you need to be able to take care of yourself while waiting on assistance from someone to retrieve your boat and/or paddle and/or help you back in your kayak.

Please note that all of your equipment will be provided by the Outfitter, but you should definitely wear good water shoes (not flip-flops!) and bring a dry-sack or other water-proof container for keys, wallets, etc.

Note: Please bring a few extra dollars to tip the Outfitter's staff. They work very hard to get us and our equipment both in and out of the river, so we want to make sure we thank them.

Payment is due within 48 hours of your signing up. If you don't pay within 48 hours of signing up, you will be automatically moved to the waiting list. Don't expect a reminder email about payment being due. See Cancellation Policy below for more details.
