Itinerary:

We will meet at 9:45 am at the Buford Dam Park parking lot. It costs $4.00 to park here. There are restrooms next to the lot.

We will start our hike promptly at 10:00 am and hike along the Laurel Ridge Trail and take a side trip to the bottom of the dam and a pedestrian bridge over the Chattahoochee River. Our total hiking distance will be a little less than 4 miles. The trail offers nice views of the dam, the river, and Lake Lanier, so you may want to bring your camera. We will return to the public beach to have lunch, swim and hang out for a while. There is a restroom next to the beach so you can change into/out of your swimsuit there.

After our hike, the rest of the day is yours. We hope you join us for the optional cookout. FYI the park closes at 10 pm.

A backpack, swimsuit, towel, lunch, camera, insect repellent, sunscreen, folding camp chair, aqua shoes/Keens/Tevas

If you particpate in the optional cookout, you may want to bring a cooler, small charcoal grill, etc.

How to Get There:

From Atlanta go north on I-85 and take the I-985 exit. Continue a little under 4 miles on I- 985 until Exit 4. At the top of the ramp turn left onto SR 20. Drive about 5.5 miles on SR 20 and turn right on Suwanee Dam Road, which dead ends after 2.2 miles. Turn left on Buford Dam Road and drive about 0.5 miles. Turn right at the entrance to the Lanier Project Management Office. Turn right at the Buford Dam Park entrance sign. Drive up hill to gate house and pay for parking ($4.00). Then drive straight to the parking lot.
