Itinerary:

Visited by travelers from all over the world, Stone Mountain is one of THE best spots for sunset viewing in the city of Atlanta. It is a known fact that there are still a few AOC members who have never climbed Atlanta's biggest landmark. This is your chance to conquer the Mountain and get a prime viewing seat for the Thursday evening sunset.

We will be begin the hike at the confederate parking lot (near the restrooms) for an Easy to Moderate Hike through parts of the nature trail, up a small section of the Cherokee trail and then to the top via an alternative route through the woods. We will spend some time at the top taking in the view and watching the sunset. There will be a chance for some photos before we descend down via the main trail. This hike is suitable for beginners and those who wish to enjoy the great views from the top of Stone Mountain.

As it will be getting dark towards the end of the hike, I recommend everyone bring a small headlamp or flashlight for the descent down.

Free parking is available at MARTA PARK n RIDE parking lot. It is less than a half mile walk to the park and the West entrance gate is near our meeting area.

The hike will be approximately 3.5 miles and will involve some steep sections so please bring appropriate footwear.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email Laura or Aaron.
