Itinerary:

Lauren won't be with us, so we'll just have to do it ourselves. Let's  take it easy on this one and just enjoy talking with friends, meeting new friends,  and walking at a  moderate pace.  Nothing strenuous, though the trail "undulates."  It is a great hike for beginners who at least have the ability to walk three miles.  Of course, more experienced hikers are welcome to come along and even walk ahead at a faster pace, if you like. (Runners find this a very pleasant location for a potected workout.)  The trail is one big loop, so you can't get lost - - at least, not for long!

The Leita Thompson Memorial Park is a very pretty area located in Roswell, GA. The trail itself is made of soft, small gravel and it's plenty wide enough for folks to walk side by side. It's very wooded, clean, and well-maintained.  I call it the perfect D2. We'll do about 3 miles including a walk around a small lake we pass on the trail.  We might even take a short detour to see Leita Thompson's old house on the property.

A little more information on the park:

There are no bathrooms, but there are three sets of porta potties throughout the park. And - - of course - - there are plenty of trees.

Please call or text me if you are running late.  I plan to start on time, so please arrive a few minutes early, in case you have to park your car in the overflow lot about 1/8 mile from the small pavilion lot.  My number is 404-788-4089.  Be sure to identify yourself by name if you leave me a message.

This is a dog-friendly park, with many dogs on the trail.  You are welcome to bring your dog as long as you keep it on leash and clean up any messes that it makes.  There is a fenced in "off leash" area if you'd like for your dog to be able to run free and play with other dogs after we finish our hike.

Required Items to Bring:

water, gatorade or whatever you like to keep hydrated (important)
comfortable hiking shoes

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Insect spray is helpful.

The trails are shaded, but there is a large meadow we cross that offers full sun.  Sunscreen is adviseable if you are concerned about getting full sun without protection for 10-15 minutes.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

1200 Woodstock Rd

Roswell, GA 30075

It's best to use maps.google.com and map directions from your destination. You can go to maps.google.com and enter the bold text below in to the search bar. If you chose Satelite View, you can see a birdseye view of the parking lot.

34.06315, -84.40678

There is a green roofed pavillion very close to Woodstock Rd. You can see it easily from the road and it says "Leita Thompson Pavillion."  The park is just past the 1 mile marker on Woodstock Ave. (also Hwy 92). There is a road just before the pavillion that leads to the main little lot.  The first turn-in to the park is the dog park;  the second turn-in is the educational/arts center; the third turn-in is where we will meet - - at the pavillion.

You may want to (or need to) park in the overflow parking lot that can be accessed from the main lot if the pavilion lot is full (which it usually is).  It's only 1/8 of a mile down a shaded road. You can drive right there from the pavilion lot without re-entering the highway.
