From Dick's Creek Gap we climb about 1200 ft to the sidetrail leading to a lookout, which we may skip, as there is a better view to the east ahead. From there we make an undulating descent to Deep Gap and then climb 600 ft to Kelly Knob (aka Double Spring). Here we take in the better view to the east. We then descend about five minutes to a lookout to the west, where we will have lunch, after which we return the way we came. Total distance is about 10 miles and total elevation gain is 2900 ft. The photo, taken from Tray Mountain in the spring, shows Kelly’s Knob in the distance. When we have lunch, we’ll be looking towards where I was standing when I snapped the picture.

We may have dinner in Clayton afterwards, depending on when people need to get home, this being a Sunday. I expect to be off the trail by 5:00.

Since I will be joining the group in Clayton, I will ask someone to co-ordinate the carpool at the Indian Trail Park and Ride.
