Itinerary:
Join me and co-leader/sweep Dante Martinez on this beautiful river advenuture. When we arrive at Gorges State Park, we will dayhike out of the parking area and down to the Horsepasture River Valley, after about 1 mile we will reach the first of four beautiful waterfalls on the Horsepasture, a designated national 'wild and scenic river'. This is the single most scenic river in the Southeast in my opinion; with four beautiful waterfalls in short space in rugged backcountry scenery.

We will visit Drift Falls first, now privately owned -but its still viewable despite the posted signs. Then we make our way to National Scenic, protected river (whole thing below Drift Falls) to see increasingly beautiful waterfalls, first Turtleback Falls, then the stunningly spectacular raging, wild but incredibly beautiful 150' Rainbow Falls. Afterwards we will hike the downhill section another mile and a half to Stairway Falls, a nice stepped waterfall; and we'll have lunch and a nice break there. We'll decide on a swimming hole of our choice on the way out (or at Stairway Falls) and wade, swim and relax in the river. After our relaxtion time; we'll make our way out the moderate 3 mile climb from the Horsepasture Valley, back to our cars. If we have time we can hike the 3.2 miles to Bearwallow Falls in Gorges State Park or another falls in the area.

We'll stop on the way back -about eight miles south to view the tallest and very scenic waterfall east of Mississippi-Whitewater Falls-441'
There is an upper and lower viewing deck (better pics there). It is a short 4/10's total distance, worth every bit.
Anyone that wants afterwards can join me at 'Puerto Nuevo-a genuinly great authentic Mexican restaurant in Walhalla, SC on the way back, also inexpensive at 7-10 dollars for everything.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $108.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
Join me at this stunningly beautiful river-the prettiest I know of that has 4 gorgeous waterfalls in a short distance; not to speak of countless great sunning, swimming holes-which we can make our pick of on the way in to Stairway Falls. Scenery and swimming, sunning, wading in 1 great adventure.
* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cost Includes:shared gas expense for drivers-about 7-8 bucks a person for drive of this length. 2 bucks for Whitewater Falls parking area. about 10 bucks if you decide to have optional dinner at Puerto Nuevo Mexican restaurant in Walhalla, SC afterwards-serve great mexican food for about 10 bucks.
