Hikers,

This hike begins at Hogpen Gap off of GA 348 just North of Helen. We will hike 1.7 miles south on the Appalachian Trail to Cowrock Mountain. We begin by hiking up and over Wildcat Mountain. Then it’s downhill to Tesnatee Gap and a final climb to the wide rock slab on the side of Cowrock Mountain. We will stop for a rest and lunch here before returning the 1.7 miles back to the car. There is about 800 feet of vertical rise on this hike but there is a beautiful view atop Cowrock Mountain.

After our hike to Cowrock Mountain, we will drive back down GA 348 a few miles and stop at Dukes Creek Falls for a short 1.1 mile hike to a waterfall. The trail here is well groomed with a gradual descent down to the base of the falls. Part of the trail is a wooden boardwalk with several staircases. After enjoying the waterfall, we will hike back out the 1.1 miles to the car and return to Atlanta.

The roundtrip mileage for Cowrock Mountain is 3.6 miles with another 2.2 miles for Dukes Creek Falls.
