Itinerary:

Let's take it easy on this one and just enjoy talking with friends, meeting new friends,  and walking at a very moderate pace.  Nothing strenuous!  It is a great hike for beginners who at least have the ability to walk three miles.  The trail is one big loop, so you can't get lost!  - - At least, not for long!

The Leita Thompson Memorial is a very pretty trail located in Roswell, GA. It's made of soft, small gravel and plenty wide to walk side by side. It's very wooded and clean and has a few nice little hills. I call it the perfect D2. We'll do about 3 to 3.5 miles on the trails including a walk around a small lake.

A little more information on the park:

There are no bathrooms, but there are three sets of porta potties throughout the park. And - - of course - - there are plenty of trees.

Heels up at 10:00 sharp, so please arrive a few minutes early, in case you have to park your car in the overflow lot about 1/8 mile from the pavilion lot.

This is a dog-friendly park, with many dogs on the trail.  You are welcome to bring your dog as long as you keep it on leash during the hike and clean up any messes that it makes.  There is a fenced in "off leash" area if you'd like for your dog to be able to run free and play with other dogs after the hike.

For those who have a little time after the hike, we can drive down Woodstock Avenue to the Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt Shop - - just a couple of miles from our park.  It is a bright, cheery little place with lots of "make your own" possibilities.  The address is 11255 Woodstock Road  Roswell, GA 30075.

Required Items to Bring:

water, gatorade or whatever you like to keep hydrated (important)
Good hiking shoes

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Insect spray is helpful.

The trails are shaded, but there is a large meadow we cross that offers full sun.  Sunscreen is adviseable if you are concerned about getting full sun without protection for 10-15 minutes.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

1200 Woodstock Rd

Roswell, GA 30075

There are actually three entrances to the park!  We'll be meeting at the third one - - at the pavilion.  The first puts you at the dog park, at the south end of the park.  The middle driveway puts you into the overflow parking lot near the arts center building.  If you park here, walk through the little road marked "ONE WAY" to the pavilion. The third entrance is the main one (with the green-roofed pavilion), though parking here tends to be limited, depending on the time of day.  If it's full, you can simply drive down the little road to the overflow parking area and walk back to the pavilion - - about 1/8 mile.
