Saturday Morning Gold Branch Hike

Itinerary:

This is a pleasant hike in the Gold Branch unit of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area.  We will meet in the parking lot, which is located off Lower Roswell Road.  Please note that there are no restrooms at this location.

From the parking lot, we'll enter the woods and shortly make a moderate ascent, which will get our hearts working.  The remainder of the first half of the hike contains relatively gentle undulations.  The second half of the hike will include two or three ascents, depending on the trail chosen.  We will have plenty of nice views of the river and Bull Sluice Lake. 

On previous visits to Gold Branch, we were lucky enough to see a white swan, blue herons, Mallard ducks, Canadian geese, deer, and a large turtle catching a few rays.


Required Items to Bring:
  • $3 parking fee if you do not own an annual pass
  • Appropriate clothing for weather
  • Plenty of water for adequate hydration

From northbound US 19 and GA 400
Take exit 6 - Northridge Road. 
Stay in right lane merging onto Dunwoody Place, go 1.3 miles. 
Turn right at Roswell Road, go 0.6 miles. 
Turn left at Azalea Drive, go 1.7 miles. 
Turn left at Willeo Road, go 1.4 miles. 
Turn left at Lower Roswell Road, go 0.7 mile to park entrance on the left.

From southbound US 19 and GA 400
Take exit 6 - Northridge Road.
Continue straight onto Dunwoody Place, go 1.3 miles.
Turn right at Roswell Road, go 0.6 miles.
Turn left at Azalea Drive, go 1.7 miles.
Turn left at Willeo Road, go 1.4 miles.
Turn left at Lower Roswell Road, go 0.7 mile to park entrance on the left. 

From northbound Interstate 75
Take exit 263 for GA120 Loop. 
Merge right onto GA 120 Loop, E/South Marietta Parkway SE, go 1.2 miles. 
Exit GA 120 Loop for GA 120 E/Roswell Road. 
Turn right at GA 120 E/Roswell Road, go 6.1 miles. 
Turn right at Timber Ridge Road, go 1.4 miles. 
Continue straight onto Lower Roswell Road, go 0.7 miles to park entrance on the left. 

From southbound Interstate 75
Take exit 265 for GA120 Loop. 
Turn left at GA 120 Loop/North Marietta Parkway NE, go 1.4 miles. 
Exit GA 120 Loop for GA 120 E/Roswell Road. 
Turn left at GA 120 E/Roswell Road, go 6.1 miles. 
Turn right at Timber Ridge Road, go 1.4 miles. 
Continue straight onto Lower Roswell Road, go 0.7 miles to park entrance on the left. 

From eastbound Interstate 285
Take exit 24 - Riverside Drive NW. 
Turn left at Riverside Drive NW, go 2.3 miles. 
Turn left at Johnson Ferry Road NW, go 1.8 miles. 
Turn right at Lower Roswell Road, go 2.2 miles to the park entrance on your right. 

From westbound Interstate 285
Take exit 24 - Riverside Drive NW. 
Turn right at Riverside Drive NW, go 2.2 miles. 
Turn left at Johnson Ferry Road NW, go 1.8 miles. 
Turn right at Lower Roswell Road, go 2.2 miles to the park entrance on your right.
