Join me on this 8 mile hike to see waterfalls on all 3 creeks at 'Three Forks'; that come together to form the Western Fork of the Chattooga River; a federally designated Wild and Scenic River corridor. After arriving at the trailhead, we walk on the easy rolling terrain several miles until getting the Chattooga 'Wild and Scenic' river corridor; where the scenery and adventure get intensely beautiful and rugged. Big Creek with its 3 waterfalls is my favorite waterfall hike in Georgia with added bonus of 2 other waterfalls in their respective gorges, on this hike. We'll hike to Overflow Falls first, a 15 foot rugged beauty of a waterfall; with a nice swimming hole beneath it. After a 'beat the heat' wading, swimming break in the pool beneath Overflow Falls; we bushwack our way on old overgrown,forest service roads to Big Creek and the 'Three Forks' intersection. There is a nice waterfall at end of Big Creek there where will have lunch and wading, or dipping in 1 of 2 rock jacuzzis and have a scenic lunchbreak under, near the falls.From here we will creek cross Overflow Creek to visit another nice waterfall on Holcomb Creek, some 20' high; before returning to the Big Creek trail, with its initial short but steep uphills to 2 more incresingly beautiful waterfalls on Big Creek; capped by a stunning, wild 3-tiered 50' beauty, in a deep gorge. This part and the previous waterfall on Big Creek require some potential buttsliding; and hiking sticks will be useful at both getting down the steep terrain to see them. After the last waterfall we make out way out the relatively mellow uphill to easy road walk out to our cars.Anyone wanting to join us at Julia's after the hike will be in for a true gourmet dining experience, highly recommended, but optional.

This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Notes: | |||||||
Bring you sense of adventure and fun for this rugged backcountry adventure in the designated Wild and Scenic Chattooga River corridor. Big Creek alone is my favorite waterfall hike in Georgia with added bonus of two other waterfalls on 'Three Forks' in this 8 mile hike. * We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.
Cost Includes: | expect to pay your drivers at least 5 bucks for shared gas expense. Optional dinner should be around 15 dollars, dependent on what you drink, or if you add desserts. Their food is exceptional though; and they offer a half portion dinner called 'sunset dinner' specials if we are seated before 6pm.
Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review the AOC cancellation policy. *Note: It is important on this event, like all others to remove yourself as soon as you know you cant make it for whatever reason to give someone else a chance to enjoy this adventure in your place. |
