Itinerary:

Join me on this beautifully clear night of breathtaking views of the Orionid Meteor Shower from atop Georgia's highest mountain!

Brasstown Bald rises 4,784 feet above sea level and its peak looms half a mile above the surrounding valleys. The observation deck offers a breathtaking view of the mountains’ scenic vistas. On clear days in late September and October, it’s even possible to see the skyline of Atlanta. Fortunately, we'll be far away from any unwanted light pollution and will enjoy skies illuminated only by the meteors and other celestial objects.

Jupiter, Venus, Sirius, Leo, Taurus, Gemini, and, of course, Orion will make their appearances throughout the evening. The highlight will be the swiftly moving green and yellow meteor particles, spawned by history’s most famous comet, as they crash into our atmosphere. The Orionid meteor shower is one of the most beautiful showers of the year. The peak should be in the pre-dawn hours Sunday. Feel free to stay as long as you wish and carpool accordingly.

Make sure you dress for your comfort as the temperatures are much cooler temperatures on top of the mountain. Bring something to sit or recline on, a blanket, extra jacket, hat, gloves, and plenty of snacks and beverages to get you through the evening. It will be around 38 degrees and possibly windy, but so worth it to catch these magnificent views!
