Itinerary:
EXPLORER SERIES

We will leave Atlanta Early Saturday Morning. Will will stop for lunch along the way, fast food or sandwhich shop. We will drop 1 set of cars along the forest rd on the way in. Car shuttle is 5 miles 1 way.
Day 1:
Our Adventure begins at Tablerock Mtn (3,680') The Mystic Altar of the Cherokee Indians, sounds cool but I have no idea what that means. From the parking lot we will climb about 300' to check out the top of Tablerock Mtn. We will then head back down and across the parking lot toward "The Chimneys"(3,557'). This is a rock formation along the upper east ridge of the gorge. We will then head down into "Chimney Gap" and then turn onto "Chimbric Ridge Trail" which takes us down into the gorge to the "Linville Gorge Trail" which follows the river at the bottom running north and south. From here we will hike 2 miles to explore the end of the trail and then return back 2 miles to this point. We will then hike north along the river looking for a place to camp along the next few miles.
Day 2:
We will break camp and follow the river and trail north. We have 2 outs at this point depending upon how the previous day went and how much we want to stop to explore. Our first and shortest option takes us out the "Spence Ridge Trail" to the "Little Tablerock Trail" and back to Tablerock Mtn. Total distance: 12.4 miles not counting the climb up Tablerock Mtn. If we have more time we will take option 2 and cover most of the gorge traveling 10.4 out of the 11.4 mile "Linville Gorge Trail" and exiting the "Brushy Ridge Trail" to where our first set of cars was left. Total distance: 17.6 miles. this decision will NOT BE MADE until we are in the gorge so do not sign up unless you are prepared to do the longer trip.

All the trails are rated moderate but due to the amount of distance we are traveling and the fact this is a "Fast-Packing Trip" (see below) I am rating this trip difficlut..

This is NOT a Beginner Trip and is only for those who want to go fast and light!

Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:I will hand them out at the carpool
Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):550Mile(s)
Carpool Departure Time: 8:00 am
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $220.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
"Fast-Packing" This is a subcategory of backpacking. These are lightweight-fast moving trips. Your backpack has a 30lbs. max load (fully loaded, water, food, etc) and you must be able to move at a quick pace. You can go a few pounds over (5), if I have been out with you before and know that your pace allows extra weight. If your pack weighs 40lbs or so and you want to go sign up with someone and share tents, etc.
I will have a water pump to share as well as a camp saw. Fires are allowed in the gorge.

EXPLORER SERIES: This measn that I have NOT been to this area before and we will be exploring together. There is alwys a chance the trip will take longer or shorter than expected and thier might be things not forseen that arise. We should be prepared for most if not all situations that arise.

Copperheads and Timber Rattlers are a possibility so I have a snake bite kit just in case.
