Itinerary:

Let's try to catch a beautiful sunset atop Stone Mountain.  The sun will set on Dec. 5th at 5:28 PM, so if we leave the base at 4:45 PM, that should give us time to make the ascent for the viewing. I will be finishing a hike around the mountain (which you're welcome to sign up for) by 4:45 - - just in time to take folks up to the top.

Folks can pace themselves to the top of the mountain, but keep in mind that we have a deadline! Tarry too long and you'll miss the sun sinking below the horizon!  We will leave promptly at 4:45!  If you're running late, you're welcome to meet us at the top.

Please bring a flashlight or headlamp for the descent, which will be in the dark.  We will take the wooded path on the right rather than the marked trail down the bald rock.  I haven't lead a group down this way myself, but I've been on several hikes on which we took this route.  I figure that if we keep heaading downward, we'll eventually get back to the base . . .   right?  :-)  I love adventure!


Required Items to Bring:

A source of light (other than your personal aura) - - headlamp or flashlight

Water

A warm jacket, cap and gloves.  It can get cold and windy at the top!
