Itinerary:

Winter, spring, summer, or fall, Island Ford is one of the nicest hikes along the Chattahoochee. We will hike 5 -6 miles on several trails down to the river and back again. There will be a few hills, but nothing too strenuous. We will stop a few times to enjoy the scenery but expect to keep a steady pace throughout the hike.

We will cover as much of the park as we can before dark, including the Sandy Springs lollipop trail adjacent to Roberts Road. Be sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp as we most likely will finish our hike after dark. Sunset is at 5:30 and we have to be out of the park by 6:00.

We will meet at the first parking lot on the left as you enter the park from Roberts Drive. If you do not have an annual CRNRA parking pass, you will need to purchase the $3 dailly parking pass at the pay station in the parking lot.

Island Ford is the location of the Park Headquarters and Visitor Station, so you can purchase an annual pass here. Please arrive at least 20-30 minutes early to take care of this. The Island Ford Visitor Station at Island Ford is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Event Directions:

From northbound US 19 and GA 400

Take exit #6 (Northridge Road).
Coming off the exit, stay in the right lane, cross over GA 400, and turn right onto Dunwoody Place.
Go 0.5 miles to Roberts Drive.
Turn right and proceed 0.7 miles to the park entrance on your right.

From southbound US 19 and GA 400

Take exit #6 (Northridge Road)
Continue straight ahead at the traffic light onto Dunwoody Place.
Go 0.5 miles to Roberts Drive.
Turn right and proceed 0.7 miles to the park entrance on your right.
