Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

The Rich Mountains total 13,276 acres near Blue Ridge Lake.  Comprised largely of wilderness, Indian camp sites still exist on some of the upper ridges.  It is reported that Georgia's largest gold nugget came from a creek in this area.  However, I will leave it to another TL to post a gold panning adventure.

Starting at Deep Gap, we'll follow the Stanley Gap Trail along the ridges of Davenport Mountain.  We'll subsequently climb Rocky Mountain before descending toward Stanley Gap and the intersection with the Benton MacKaye Trail.  We'll then take the BMT to Falls Branch Falls.  These falls are double-tiered and reputed to almost always have a nice volume of water.  We'll then re-trace our steps up Rocky Mountain and back to Deep Gap.

The hike will total approximately 12 miles and about 2300 feet in elevation gains (as best I can tell from reading a book).  I have hiked the Stanley Gap Trail from Deep Gap to Stanley Gap, but have not taken the side trip on the BMT before to see the falls.  Therefore, please be sufficiently fit to walk extra mileage if we miss a turn.  As always, your trip leader may contact you for additional information if you do not have an AOC resume showing D4 and D5 experience.

I believe we will finish a little before dinner time.  Therefore, we'll return to the carpool location and those who would like to have dinner will do so from there.
