Itinerary:

Carpool departure 4:30pm.  You will have the option to meet us at the carpool or or meet us and our host group at the event at 5:15pm.

We will join the Cartersville Parks & Recreation Department as they host our guided moonlight hike on Cartersville's Pine Mountain Trail.  This land is part of 13,000 acres that was the original site of Mark Anthony Cooper's Iron Empire. There are two loops connecting Pine Mountain - the East Loop and the West Loop. We will be hiking the West Loop for an elevation gain of around 900 feet.  The hike departs from the West Trailhead and embarks on a 2 mile hike to the David G. Archer Overlook.  Our summit of 1,562 feet above sea level will show us a stunning view of Allatoona Lake, the Etowah River Valley and the lights of Cartersville, If it is clear you will be able to see part of the Atlanta skyline and the King & Queen buildings in Sandy Springs.   Once you reach the top of this mountain you will be at the highest point in Cartersville

While these hikes are designed to take advantage of the light of the full moon you may want to bring a flashlight or headlamp. Hikes may be canceled due to bad weather.

Did you know...

Historically, the Native Americans who lived in the area that is now the northern and eastern United States kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to the recurring full Moons.

Each full Moon name was applied to the entire lunar month in which it occurred.

These names, and some variations, were used by the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior.

The Native American names are linked to the months in the Gregorian calendar to which they are most closely associated.

January is the month of the Full Wolf Moon.  It appeared when wolves howled in hunger outside the villages. It is also known as the Old Moon. To some Native American tribes, this was the Snow Moon, but most applied that name to the next full Moon, in February.

Please be on time for the carpool or meet us at the event.
