Itinerary:

For this hike we are going to approach Blood Mountain from the somewhat lesser used trials starting at Lake Winfield Scott. Total hiking distance will be about seven miles and the elevation gain will be pretty steady from the start until we reach the summit of Blood Mountain which is the highest point on the Georgia portion of the Appalachian Trial.  There is about 1500 feet of elevation gain from the trailhead to the summit so it is a pretty good climb.

If it is a clear day we should have some great 360 degree views at our lunch spot on Blood Mountain. About half of this hike will be along the Appalachian Trail.

This hike is rated moderate as far as pace. If you are concerned that if you stop more than two minutes your heart rate will go down, than this is not the hike for you. We will stop at trail junctions to gather the group and if some people are a few minutes behind that is OK. That being said you do need to be in pretty good shape for this hike. If your AOC experience does not show hiking experience in mountain conditions, then I will contact you to gauge your ability to do this hike.

If you feel you can comfortably do most of the hikes in the Atlanta metro area rated D2 and D3, have hiking boots and want to try a mountain hike I recommend this event.
