Itinerary:

UPDATE:  Because of the snow, we'll be hiking to the lodge via the Rainbow Falls Trail.  It is about 6.9 miles.

Experience an intimate overnight stay in the beautiful Smokey Mountains in a way that most people will never be able to, without even having to put up a tent!  This is an AOC first!

At 6500’ above sea level, the historic log cabin village atop LeConte is the highest lodge east of the Rocky Mountains, and is accessible only via five beautiful hiking trails. All five of the trails (approx. 3000 ft. elevation gain) to the lodge are not especially difficult if we take our time on this incredibly scenic hike.  A big part of the Lodge’s attraction is one’s sense of pride in reaching it, as there is no other available way but to hike up one of its five beautiful trails. The shortest of these, Alum Cave Trail, is about 5.5 miles long with about 2800’ of total vertical climb, and takes the typical hiker about 4 hours. Thousands of hikers of all ages over the years have proven that anyone in reasonably good health can complete this trek to the summit and back.

A lot people end their hike at the lodge, however, to reach the true summit of Mount LeConte, you still need to walk almost another half-mile.

The mountain is especially famous for its beautiful sunrises and sunsets, so don’t forget your cameras!  We'll probably take a sunset/sunrise hike to the summit before dinner/breakfast, if time permits.

Make sure you bring someone you want to share a bed with! All the beds are queen size bunk beds (double occupancy per bed). If you come on your own you may be sharing a queen size bed with someone you don't know!

There is one single bed in the common area of the 3 bedroom lodge, so one person who wants to sleep alone, and possibly stay up late and wake up early, can take this spot.  Let the trip leaders know in your notes when you sign up.

Trip includes: Overnight lodging in the historic furnished log cabins.  Hearty dinner at 6 pm and breakfast at 8 am served in the quaint dining hall.
