Itinerary:

This is a thirteen mile in and out night hike.  We will see our way by the light of the moon.  Though we will have flashlights with us in case we need them, we should not have to use them.

The hike is mosly flat with some moderate climbs.  It is just over an hours drive North on 75 from the park and ride.

We will start the hike at around 5:30, an hour before sunset at 6:31.  By 7:15 twilight will be over but by then the moon will have risen high enough for us to see by the moonlight.  The moon rises at 4:43.

Our eyes will have acclimated to the low light, and we should be able to see the trail just fine.  The moon will be nearly full, at 95%.  That will give us enough light to see some colors, and to be able to read large print.

We start the hike with a short climb to the ridge top of Mill Creek Mountain.  A lot of the hike will be along this ridge.  Here we will be able to see city lights in the distance in several directions.

From the ridge crest we descend into a cove and cross Swamp Creek.   We won't see any city lights from here, just the night forest.  We begin a gentle ascent part of the way up Middle Mountain.

The trail will reach a forest road there and we will have our supper.  After we eat, we turn around and go back the way we came.  The trip back will be more of the same, but with the moon higher in the sky.

We should be back to the trailhead by 11:00, and then back to the park and ride somewhat past midnight.

We hope for clear skies, but we can still do this hike if it is clouded over.  If it is calling for much rain though, it is a no-go.
