Itinerary: | |||||||
We will meet at the Sports Authority parking lot behind TGI Friday on Buford Drive fronting the Mall Mall of Georgia. From there we will head towards the stairs leading to the paved trail and cross the iron bridge towards the Center. We will then take the Dogwood Trail and follow the Stream Ecology loop and numerous interconnecting trails that will allow us to pass through the newly created Treetop Adventure Course, but we will not do the Treetop Course. We will first make a short stop at the 1st Council Ring, and then proceed to the 2nd Council Ring in a loop route to cross the iron bridge again. Then we will stop by the creek to see if the water is high enough to witness the dam’s water flow. We will proceed to the Ivy Creek Greenway for an approximately additional 2.7 miles behind the Mall of Georgia and then return to the Sports Authority parking lot. The trails will vary from dirt, to gravel, to paved, with minor elevation gains. The Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center is a unique education and recreation facility. It is a high-tech cultural center with hands-on science exhibits and quality educational programming. It is located on a 700-acre campus with green space and walking trails, as well as 66,000 square food educational building. The center offers field study experience for school groups, night time nature hikes, permanent and changing exhibits in the museum. A newly created section is designated for tree-walking and zip-lining. The center has more than 8 miles of beautiful trails that enhance our appreciation of the natural resources that Gwinnett County offers. I chose this venue because it highlights our roles on how we can leave ecological footprints from what nature has given us. | |||||||
