Itinerary:

Welcome to the third of my *You Can Do It* series of hikes!  These hikes are designed especially for folks who are new to hiking OR to the hike location.  They'll go no faster than a moderate pace and we will pause to take pictures when the opportunity arises.

Cochran Mills

This time we’ll be hiking some of the trails of the Cochran Mill Park.  After meeting promptly at 9:00 AM in the parking lot at the Nature Center, we’ll have a fun, but slightly soggy hike alongside Bear Creek and Little Bear Creek.  The waterfalls and creeks should be awesome due to the recent rains. Melissa and I know these trails very well, so depending on trail conditions we should really have a blast!

Before we leave from our hike, we'll pause for a quick break at the Nature Center which has bathrooms located inside.  Although they do not charge for the use of their bathrooms or even to park - a small donation would still be nice as this is a non-profit center.

(Optional) Cupcakes!

We have now earned our lunch and cupcakes!  We'll have a short drive of only 7 miles over to the Blue Eyed Daisy Bakery in Serenbe GA.  The Blue Eyed Daisy Bakery won an episode of Cupcake Wars but you'll also find they have a great lunch menu as well. After the hike, it is optional if you would like to join us for some cupcakes, but I do hope you can join us for our well-earned lunch and tasty desserts.

Required Items to Bring:

Appropriate clothing for weather

Appropriate walking/hiking shoes - it would also be a good idea to bring a second pair of shoes and socks to change into after the hike.

Plenty of fluid for adequate hydration

Parking is free but a small donation to the Nature Center for allowing us to park there would be nice.

You'll need to bring money for lunch/cupcake(s) at the Blue Eyed Daisy

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

*** Updated Directions***

Due to the weather it will be a much easier hike if we change the parking area.

FROM ATLANTA to COCHRAN MILL NATURE CENTER:

1. Take I- 85 Southward past Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Int'l Airport and get off at Exit #69, "Old National/South Fulton Parkway." (This I-85 exit is about 15 miles south of downtown Atlanta and 2 miles beyond the Airport exit. It adjoins the big I-85/I-285 interchange on the SW side of town.)

2. Take the 3-mile-long exit connector westward onto South Fulton Pkwy, and follow it about 13 more miles to Cochran Mill Road.

3. Turn Right onto Cochran Mill Road and go about 1 mile to the Cochran Mill Nature Center on your right.  Follow the gravel road about 1/2 miles and you'll see the Naute Center just past a small  pond on your left.
