Itinerary:

Allergies, be damned! Look at all the stuff blooming right now! Let’s see what our good city has to offer with an urban hike in Piedmont Park and an optional visit to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens afterward.

We’ll meet at 10:30a.m. at the Front Gate that 14th street dead ends into. Wherever you end up parking, please be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get to our meetup spot. I’ll probably park at the Botanical Gardens and give myself ten minutes to get to the gate. Hopefully that’ll be enough time and I won’t get distracted by too many shiny things along the way.

We’ll wander around the trails at the park for about an hour and a half, maybe two. The last time I was there, I noticed a new community garden and I’d like to include an additional (optional) 30 minutes to explore that. As always, I’ll keep my eyes peeled for mushrooms to identify & photograph.

When we’re finished, we can grab a bite and a brew at Park Tavern, at the edge of the park. If there’s a wait, we can skip it and hike over to the Gardens. There’s a surprisingly great café inside the gardens, but of course you’ll need to pay admission to get in and enjoy it.

At the Gardens, we can either stay as a group or split up and explore on our own. I prefer to avoid crowds, so that tends to drive my exploration of the gardens. There are some new things to explore at the Gardens; lots of Spring blooms and some new orchids in the hothouse. Bring your cameras! Expect to spend 1.5-2 hours at the Gardens, or stay ‘til closing if you like! I know some of you photographers will want to be there for the “Golden Hour,” and catch that perfect shot!

I'll allow 5 well-behaved dogs on the Piedmont Park part of the trip, provided your dog is well socialized and under your control at all times. No retractable leashes and your dog must be leashed at all times. You are responsible for cleaning up any messes your dog makes.

Note:  If you plan on joining us at the Gardens, I highly recommend you get your ticket ahead of time to avoid waiting in line.
