Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

We'll meet on the little dock by the boat ramp.

This will be a chance to explore some of Lake Lanier with a boat, have a picnic and do some light bushwacking and hiking on a number of islands. Vegetation will be light this early in the year but present, so be prepared to get a few scratches on your calves, but we're not going any place too crazy with jungle. Be prepared to climb up tree roots and maybe a few steep, slick sections near the water.

The water will still be on the colder side. If the weather stays cool like it's been, it could be, say, 60 or less, but with the days getting longer it could warm up to 70 or 72, which is still quite chilly, although workable for a quick dip.

We'll head east on the boat out to the Three Sisters Islands area (Google Maps labels it if you focus here: 34.209815,-83.994355) to hike the islands. There are no trails; we'll be finding our way through the woods and bushwacking a bit. From there we'll head north to explore other islands. We'll island hop, bushwack and hike until 12:30 or so, then break on a beach some place for lunch. Afterwards, depending on the weather and everyone's mood, we can continue island hopping or stay on the beach and swim.

Bring whatever you want to drink, but NO GLASS BOTTLES, PLEASE.

We'll reschedule if the weather looks too cold or rainy.

Required Items to Bring:

$5.00 for parking. Sun screen, sandles that you don't mind getting wet/muddy, sunglasses, sun hat (preferably with a strap so the wind doesn't blow it off your head), picnic lunch, water for the day (2 liters) and any other beverages of your choice, BUT NOT IN GLASS BOTTLES.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Sandles that you don't mind getting wet and likely muddy. We'll get some clay on our shoes hiking around, and you should be able to rinse that mud off your shoes by dipping them in the water before getting back on the boat! Zip-offs are a good idea. A windbreaker/shell and a fleece wouldn't hurt to keep from getting chilly riding on the boat.

A change of clothes for afteerwards is a good idea for your ride home, as are a towel and a bathing suit if you think you might want to swim. We won't have an awful lot of space on the boat, so consider consolidating coolers when we all get to the dock.
