Itinerary:

This is a mostly ridgetop hike along three mountains, though we do go down in a valley and along a stream to add some variety and a little more workout to our ridge hiking.

We will be on a segment of  the Pinhoti trail which is a long trail that goes from the base of the Appalachians in Alabama to the Cohuttas in Georgia.

The trailhead where we start is a only half mile from the interstate, so hopefully nobody gets lost or car sick. From the trailhead we have a half mile climb on an access trail to reach the Pinhoti at a gap in Rocky Face Mountain.   We go south on the Pinhoti but soon swing back north to go along the ridge of Hurricane Mountain.  Then we swing back south again to go along the spine of Middle Mountain.  We should have some good views of Lookout Mountain and Fort Mountain in places.

We will get to a forest road where we will turn around.  We start back the way we came but we go down a connector trail to the headwaters of Stover Creek.  We will go down a jeep road by the creek to another forest road which is our turn around again.  We go back up the jeep road to another connector trail to get back up to the Pinhoti.  From there it is back the way we came.
