This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Most of you have probably walked or ran along the Chattahoochee River at one of the many national park service locations in the Atlanta area. And many of you have kayaked or canoed this river. But have you ever ran ON the Chattahoochee River? Thanks to AOC member Chris Hill you could soon have your chance. Chris is working with a startup company named WOW that is developing technology allowing you do to this.

Our plan is to show up at Garrad Landing at 5:30 PM.  Here representives from WOW will fit you with their unique footwear along with a helmet and a life jacket. The confidentiality I signed does not allow me to say too much, but the footwear looks somewhat like a cross between those five finger shoes and a pair of flippers. After the fitting, you will be driven a few miles up the road to the Jones Bridge branch of the Chattahoochee NRA to begin our run.

According Chris, if you can do a slow jog, you will be able to use the WOW footwear. Depending on the river currents this day you should be able double or triple your average running pace. The WOW shoes let you glide on the water and if the Corp of Engineers has water release from Lake Lanier you maybe able hit 12-15 mph with little effort. While it is possible to fall while wearing these shoes, they are surprisingly stable and very few people have lost their balance in past trials. Just watch out for ducks.

After everybody makes it back to Garrad Landing, WOW will provide refreshements along with gathering their gear. If our test is successful, this is one more step in getting this unique product to market.
