Itinerary:

The American Hiking Society's National Trails Day is June 1st!!

I'm gathering a group to join forces with REI's National Trails Day Event being held at Sweetwater Creek State Park. Volunteering is rewarding, fun and a great way to give back to the outdoors. Not to mention we will be helping out a beautiful park that the AOC frequents quite often.

NOTE:

If you register for this event on the AOC website, you will also need to register for the official event on REI's website: https://www.rei.com/event/49527/session/67807.

UPDATE  5/27/13
The above REI event is full, so please use this event link instead:

(REI is looking for 200 volunteers so they've split the same event up between the 4 stores. If you haven't registered, please do so soon.)

REI's Event Description:

Each year REI participates in the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day event by helping to beautify local parks and trails. For 2013, we'll be participating with Sweetwater Creek State Park. We will need lots of hands to cut limbs, dig in the dirt and spread mulch. There will be ample work for all ages and abilities. The first 200 participants will receive a wicking REI Volunteer t-shirt as well as an REI coupon. A small lunch will be provided after the project. Some snacks will be available, but you may want to bring some of your own along with water and a reusable water bottle. Volunteers should bring work gloves and wear long pants as well as closed toed shoes. Any participant with bee sting allergies should bring their Epipen.

Carpooling: Highly recommend meeting me at the carpool location listed on this page because the parking lot at the state park isn't very large. This also prevents everyone from having a park pass. I've set carpool for 8 am. Please be on time as I would like to be a few min. early to the park.  If you absolutely have to meet at the event, then be there at 8:30.
