Itinerary:
2nd Annual Thanksgiving Canoe Trip

Last year this trip was a blast and one of the best trips I have done. It's a long drive but well worth it.

Thursday Morning we will carpool down to Northern Florida (approximate 6 hr drive) Where we will meet up with the outfitter. After loading our Canoes with gear, cooler, dry bags, radios, etc. We will paddle up stream to our first campsite. The river current is very slow so paddling up stream is very easy, I did it last year in a canoe by myself. We will camp the first night and enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner in the woods. The next morning we will float back down stream stopping at the outiftter for a bathroom break, ice, more adult beverages, etc if needed. The grocery store is only 1.5 miles from the outfitter so if anyone forgot anything or decided they don't have enough alcohol then all problems are easily solved.

From here we will continue down stream passing a few springs and to our next camp site and Naked ED! Yes you heard me right. Naked Ed is the caretaker of one of the springs along the river. He is an older guy who wears a loin cloth. He is very laid back and funny. Here we will camp for the next 2 nights. There is a bathroom here (outhouse style). We will set up camp and kick back. There is a spring here and the water is about 72 degrees year round, warm for November.

On day 3 we will float down river, stopping along the way to play in the water and have fun. We will pass more springs and parks. After having fun we will head back upstream to our camp.

On day 4 we will head downstream again and to the takeout where the outfitter will pick us up and take us back to our cars. From here we will drive home. Last year I think we left the outfitter around 1 or 2 pm but there was major construction traffic on the way home so we got in late.

Friday Night is an almost full moon and Saturday Night is a full moon so the outfitter said the river will be spectacular at night under these conditions.

This is like Pioneer camping except in a canoe. You can bring all the comforts as long as you can get them in a canoe. I will bring my radio like last year for tunes on the river.

We will split into dinner groups. Meaning 1 night you and your group will be responsible for serving dinner for everyone, the other 2 nights you get served dinner =) This worked really well last year. Breakfast and lunch you are on your own.

Required Items to Bring:
A sense of adventure with a smile

All your camping gear for 4 days

How to Get There:
Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):660Mile(s)
Carpool Departure Time: 7:00 am
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $264.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
Since this is considered a major trip gas will be split evenly between ALL vehicles. Drivers will be required to maintain a record of how much gas was used in total. Upon arriving back in Atlanta we will total all gas up and divide amongst total # of people on trip. This way of you have a bigger truck or SUV, which will be needed it doesn't cost you more than someone who brought a little car which doesn't help out the trip nearly as much.

There will be A LOT of gear, last year I had to tow a trailer for everything, I don't know if I will have this trailer or not this year.
