What could possible be better than a hike on the beautiful Foothills Trail by Lake Jocassee???

https://picasaweb.google.com/116340254090825071652/EarlySpringOnLakeJocassee?authkey=Gv1sRgCPyf0_3arbKp7AE&feat=email

How about a ride to the trail head by boat, swimming in the lake, & a leisurely boat ride back while you sip your favorite adult or non-adult beverage, eat dinner, & look at water falls!

Leaving from Devil's Fork State Park, we will get a nice boat ride to the other side of the lake & up the Toxaway River to the Canebrake trail head on the Foothills Trail. From here we cross a 225 ft suspension bridge over the Toxaway river. Don't worry, this is a very sturdy bridge built by Duke Energy. Of coarse we have to earn our swim at the end by climbing what's known as Heartbreak Ridge, a 600 ft ascent. From there it's down to a nice cove in the lake. The water is a beautiful blue-green, with rocky ledges surrounding it. We will swim & soak up the sun here for an hour or so.

Then we board the boat & go on a leisurly lake tour before heading back to the park around sunset. The lake is home to many birds, including Bald Eagles.  We will  travel up Horsepasture River & visit Mill Creek Falls. Maybe even hike under a waterfall.

Bring a small cooler with your favorite food and beverages (adult beverages are optional) to enjoy while we tour our way back to the dock.

The pace of this hike will be slower (about 2mph). It is only 5.8 miles, but does have one significant climb, which you can take your time acending. But please understand this is not a walk in the park.
